What Are Neuromodulators?
Neuromodulator treatments like Botox & Dysport have proven time and time again to achieve amazing results when it comes to wrinkle reduction and skin smoothing. Utilizing neuromodulators as an aging preventative has gained popularity, especially in the areas of the face most prone to expression lines, such as the forehead and crow’s feet. They are injected with a small needle into the targeted muscles to relax the muscle, leaving the skin with a smoother, more rested, youthful appearance.
Asheville’s Trusted Aesthetic Injector
At Awaken Skin + Body, we believe the key to achieving a natural look with neuromodulators lies in the technique of the provider—using just the right amount to relax the muscles without hindering their ability to express a full range of emotions. This balance ensures that your face reflects your feelings accurately and dynamically, without the tell-tale signs of being 'overdone.' We tailor each treatment to respect and enhance your individual features, ensuring results that look authentic and harmonious.

What To Expect For Your Neuromodulator Treatment
With both new and established clients, Janna Amato keeps the treatment process consistent; reviewing treatment goals, mapping the injection plan, discussing post treatment instructions, and providing a quote for the cost of service prior to injecting. You’ll be fully informed and comfortable before beginning treatment.
How To Prepare For Your Neuromodulator Procedure
Appropriate preparation ahead of your treatment will ensure the best results and minimizes the risk of side effects.
Avoid aspirin, vitamin E, St. John’s Wort, fish oil and other dietary supplements including: ginkgo, evening primrose oil, garlic, feverfew, and ginseng for 1-2 weeks. These have a blood thinning effect and increase the risk of bruising.
Avoid ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) and alcohol for 2 days.
Take oral Arnica Montana tablets and bromelain (pineapple enzyme), 5 days prior to injections to minimize the risk of bruising. We have Silagen available which is a capsule containing both arnica and bromelain. Continue taking these supplements for +/-3 days after injections to aid in the healing process.
If possible, come to your appointment with a cleanly washed face without makeup.
During Your Neuromodulator Procedure
After your treatment goals, post treatment instructions, and treatment cost have been discussed, your skin will be cleansed and anticipated injection areas will be mapped out. Neuromodulators are then delicately injected into specific facial muscles, targeting areas that cause wrinkles, creases, and expression lines to form. You’ll be provided with detailed care instructions to optimize the efficacy and duration of your neuromodulator procedure so that you can fully enjoy your rejuvenated look!
Neuromodulator Aftercare & Recovery Timeline
The effects of neuromodulators generally begin to appear within 3-4 days following the treatment session. The fully developed result is recognized at 14 days. Skin redness, swelling, and temporary bruising are common but short-lived side effects. Appropriate care after your treatment will ensure the best results and minimizes the risk of side effects.
Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours
Keep your head upright until bedtime
Avoid hot tubs and saunas for 24 hours
Limit alcohol consumption for the remainder of the day
Avoid wearing hats/headbands across your forehead for 24 hours
Avoid rubbing or massaging your face and the use of mechanical facial devices for a few days (Clarisonic, facial rollers, etc)
What Kind Of Results Can I Expect?
Whether you're looking to refresh your appearance for a special occasion or as part of a routine preventative strategy, Botox can be a valuable tool in your aesthetic arsenal. By temporarily relaxing dynamic facial wrinkles and fine lines, neuromodulator treatments provide a rested and rejuvenated appearance. Targeted areas like crow’s feet, frown lines, or forehead lines appear smoother and more youthful. Termed “Pre-juvenation”, this treatment can also be preventative, limiting the formation of new wrinkles in areas of repetitive facial expressions. Our neuromodulator treatment allows for natural and soft expression, avoiding the ‘frozen’ look. Botox and Dysport are expected to last 3-4 months, and the preventative aging benefits are best maintained with consistently scheduled treatments.
Are Neuromodulator Treatments Right For Me?
Neuromodulators are both corrective and preventative, and work best on dynamic wrinkles that form from facial expressions and haven’t become etched in yet. Clients who are best suited for this service have a healthy lifestyle, realistic expectations, a quality skincare regimen, and use a sunscreen daily.
